My Maranao friend took this shot when we were in Marawi City. I like the composition so I painted it from his photograph. If not for the background
of a big mosque, one would think that the jeepney is just one of those we
see in other parts of the country. Looking at the beautiful structures of the mosque and the people in Maranao attire, I thought I was transported to an Islamic country! No wonder Marawi City is called the Islamic City in Southern Philippines. While I was working on this painting, some messages on peace
and unity kept flashing on my mind. In some ways we are different but we
have more things in common if we only try to travel through one vehicle towards a better future where people live together in peace and harmony regardless of religious beliefs and social orientations.
