T’boli Girl
9” x 12” Water color on water color paper
This painting was based from a photograph of a T'boli girl which was taken
while she was dancing in the open field. The T'bolis live in Surallah along the
rim of the placid Lake Sebu or up the Cotabato Cordilleras. I was deeply attracted with the beautiful design and color combination of the girl's costume which is further enhanced by her necklace of multi-colored beads. The girl
also seems to show pride and confidence in their native dance. Evidently, the elders of the tribe are successful in transmitting their material culture - their dance, costumes and accessories from generation to generation.
